EVCI donates health insurance for 100 vulnerable women in Kimisagara Sector

Every Voice Counts Initiative (EVCI) has donated a cheque of Rwf 300,000 as health insurance contribution to benefit 100 vulnerable women from Kimisagara sector, Nyarugenge District. Among others, one of EVCI intervention is to promote health insurance at community level especially for vulnerable people.

The ceremony took place during a general assembly of women under the National Women Council (NWC) at the sector level and it was an initiative of EVCI to partner with Kimisagara sector to enforce the wellbeing of the citizens.

Every Voice Counts Initiative (EVCI) is a non-government organization educating individuals about their rights and empowering them especially women and girls to champion advocacy for the promotion and protection of their rights in society.

According to Me. Steven Gatari, EVCI Board member, the initiative aims at helping the needy to have access to healthcare services at any time without suffering financial hardship.

“No one should get sick and die just because they are poor, or because they cannot access the health services. The right to health also means that everyone should be entitled to control their own health and body, including having access to sexual and reproductive information and services, free from violence and discrimination.

The central principle of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is to ensure that no one is left behind. Therefore, I call on all countries, CSOs and Human right activists to respect and protect human rights in health in their laws, their health policies and programmes.” Me. Gatari said.

“We must all work together to combat inequalities and discriminatory practices so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of good health, no matter their age, sex, race, religion, health status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or migration status.” he added.

Athanasie Mushimiyimana, the President of National Women Council in Kimisagara sector appreciated for the good collaboration with EVCI Organization saying that the contribution will help Kimisagara Sector to further the wellbeing of their citizens especially the most vulnerable women to improve healthcare.

“It is a good initiative indeed, the government cannot achieve everything without the efforts of partners, these women will be able to enjoy their health rights without discrimination we call upon other partners for Working together, supporting each other and developing long-term relationships which will allows us to achieve far more than we could achieve alone.” Mushimiyimana said.
