Airtel Rwanda drops all charges to Zero for Peer to Peer Transfers

• Airtel is the only operator right now in RWANDA to offer P2P Free.
• Customers of Airtel Money in Rwanda can now send money to each other at zero cost, a game changing initiative that should relieve customers seeking ways to send money to friends and family are no cost.
• Free P2P comes after the opening of over 75 new Airtel Money Branches and Service Centres that have increased access to services including e-money that are now always available at any value.
• Airtel also reduced the purchase price of SIM Cards to 200 RWF instead of the previous cost of 500 RWF.

On June 2, 2021,  Rwanda’s fast growing service provider of Voice, Data and Mobile Financial services has today announced the elimination of all costs for the popular Peer to Peer money transfer.

Announcing the changes to the Airtel Money Tariff, Airtel Managing Director Mr. Amit Chawla said “Airtel is cognizant of the constraints that customers have faced due to Covid-19 and we would like to enable customers to send and receive any amount of money every day for an extended period of time.”  

P2P (Short for Peer to Peer) as it is popularly known is a service that is used by millions Rwandans to move money between themselves every day.

“We are delighted to enable customers to move up to 2,000,000 RWF per transaction for up to 3 transactions a day for free. Rwandans now have an opportunity to save on these fees which, overtime will add up and enable Airtel Money Customers to invest it on other things that they need. This comes after the recent reduction of our fees to cash out at an Agent, making Airtel Money up to 20% less than the competition” Added Mr. Amit.  

This move comes on the heels of a recent rollout of dedicated Airtel Money shops to complement the existing network of Airtel Service Centers. These Shops, that have been branded Airtel Money Branches are now available in each and every neighborhood in Kigali and make it possible for customers and Agents alike to deposit and withdraw any amount of money throughout the week as well as the recent reduction of the purchase price of Airtel SIM Cards which can now be purchased from an Agent or Service Center for only 200 RWF, a price that has been reduced from 500 RWF.
