32 Veterinary Doctors join the Council, urged to deliver quality service

At least 32 veterinary doctors sworn in on November 7,2019 immediately joined their professional council ‘Rwanda Council of Veterinary Doctors (RCVD).

Among the assignments they were given, Discipline and respect of the oath by avoiding being corrupted are on top.

The Chairperson of Rwanda Council of Veterinary Doctors (RCVD), Dr. Francois Xavier Rusanganwa urged them to uphold discipline and respect values, the professional ethics to further their contribution in animal and human disease prevention.

He warned them against corruption as it leads to many consequences including health effects such as when they permit people to sell contaminated meat and milk.

Dr Alphonse Nshimiyimana, Executive Secretary of RCVD said that a veterinary doctor who is found receiving corruption is punished.
Only this year 2019, 2 cases of forging certificates and 4 cases of veterinary doctors who made false treatment of animals were experienced by the council.

Despite the challenges that are still observed, Nshimiyimana said that animals keep increasing in numbers and in quality.
Genetically improved cows are now 1.3 million,. He said.

“Five to ten years ago, Pigs and poultry population increased three times in number and in quality.” He said.

The council has over 400 registered professional Veterinary doctors and 2,000 technicians so far.

Veterinary doctors who were sworn in, have committed to use acquired knowledge and skills to help Rwandans get effective and quality services.

Germaine Uwayezu, a vet doctor and graduate from University of Rwanda-Nyagatare Campus said that the skills she has gained will help her to deliver quality service to farmers and will avoid corruption.

Providence Ishimwe said that being a member of RCVD is meaningful as it helps to boost the profession. “This day very significant to me and means a lot in my history. I will abide by the oath we have taken. Being together with experts from the council will help us to promote our profession,” she said.
