The power for food partnership highlights regenerative agriculture innovations at the 19th Rwanda Agrishow

Regenerative agriculture and locally developed farming innovations are attracting attention at the 19th Rwanda Agriculture Show (Agrishow), where exhibitors are showcasing solutions aimed at improving soil health, boosting productivity and reducing farmers’ dependence on imported agricultural inputs.

Among the exhibitors is La FOI Benie Ltd, a Rubavu-based company developing Tangili, an organic soil improver made from recycled vegetable market waste, animal manure, Mexican sunflower, canna flower and animal urine.

The company says Tangili is designed to help farmers partially replace synthetic or inorganic fertilisers, reducing dependence on imported fertiliser while promoting more sustainable soil management.

Managing Director Jerome Iradukunda said Tangili helps restore soil fertility by supplying organic matter and essential nutrients needed for crop production.

He explained that healthier soils can support stronger crops and improve their resilience to pests and diseases, potentially reducing farmers’ reliance on chemical inputs while supporting productivity.

“Tangili is suitable for all crops because its primary purpose is to regenerate soil and restore its natural condition,” Iradukunda said, adding that the product is also intended to provide farmers with a more affordable alternative to some imported inputs.

The company is currently working towards full product registration with the Rwanda Inspectorate, Competition and Consumer Protection Authority (RICA) and the Rwanda Standards Board (RSB), following laboratory testing by the Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB).

La FOI Benie Ltd is exhibiting its innovation with support from Kilimo Trust through the Power for Food Partnership, an initiative promoting regenerative agriculture powered by renewable energy.

According to Christophe Ayabagabo, a Kilimo Trust official, the partnership provides agricultural enterprises with opportunities to showcase innovations, connect with potential customers and strengthen market access through platforms such as Agrishow.

He said the initiative seeks to expand the adoption of regenerative agriculture solutions that improve soil health, increase farmers’ incomes and contribute to more resilient food systems.

The 19th Rwanda Agrishow brings together farmers, agribusinesses, innovators, policymakers and other stakeholders to showcase technologies and solutions aimed at transforming Rwanda’s agricultural sector.

As Rwanda works to promote climate-smart and sustainable agriculture, locally developed products such as Tangili are emerging as potential solutions for improving soil health while reducing reliance on imported synthetic fertilisers and supporting more sustainable food production.
