Rwanda: Oxygene machine launched to sustain health

Nyamata Hospital has obtained a new technological machine, which operates like a plant to pump oxygen to patients; it is less expensive compared to the former method of using bottled ones.

This first born machine in Rwanda, is worth Rwf36 million and is a gift from Korea as a result of a strong partnership with Nyamata hospital.

Its inaugural   ceremony was due to this 12^th February 2019.

That machine operates as a plant of that oxygen has two operating parts, in case of technical troubles for one part, the second one functions properly to avoid crisis of patients.

Director General of Nyamata District Dr Rutagengwa William says it is a real time in medical industry to have such machine, as the previous method was not supportive and was more expensive.

“The usual system is expensive while the oxygen is priority in the hospital, that is why we chose to have agreement with these Koreans. Normally we buy it using bottles and it is challenging for transportation, and because of changing them many times, it negatively affects many things” He said

He added that “The other challenge is that, when patients are using oxygen of the bottle, the more it decreases, the more it reaches under normal measures which could cause problems. This machine instead is a plant nothing changed compared to patients’ measures”

The resources spent on oxygen will decrease at the rate of 50%.

Nyamata Hospital spends Rwf4-5 million on oxygen per month while for new machine, around Rwf2 million will be reduced monthly.

The representative of Korea during the launch, prof Chang Ki Lee who chairs also Board of Directors of UAUR University, which, sooner will open its campuses in Rwanda desires that those machine reach other hospitals.
