The Rwanda National Police operating in Nyarugenge District has announced the arrest of three robbers who had been ambushing residents and attacking them with knives. Some of the suspects were caught in possession of the weapons they used in their crimes.
The arrests took place between March 7 and 8, 2025, in Gitega Sector, Gacyamo Cell.
The suspects include Sebanani Emmanuel, who was found with a knife, according to the police, and Musabyeyezu Dieu Donner, also known as Nyabugogo, who is suspected of being a notorious thief.
Another suspect, Nsanzumuhire Daniel, was caught inside a resident’s compound attempting to steal. He was also found in possession of a knife.
The arrests followed repeated complaints from residents about gangs that were taking advantage of the night to break into homes, loot valuables, and attack or rob people using knives.
CIP Wellars Gahonzire, the Rwanda National Police spokesperson in Kigali City, told Umusekethat these suspects were not just committing theft but also engaging in violent criminal acts.
He stated, “Anyone who goes to steal while armed with a knife is a murderer.”
He urged residents to avoid getting involved in criminal activities, as it only leads to punishment with no benefits.
“The Rwanda National Police will not tolerate anyone who threatens the security and peace of Rwandans,” he added.
CIP Gahonzire also reminded citizens to continue working closely with security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities in a timely manner.
Recently, in collaboration with other security agencies, the Rwanda National Police in Kigali arrested more than 30 individuals suspected of ambushing travelers, snatching their belongings, injuring them, and breaking into homes to steal valuables.
The suspects are believed to have committed theft in Gitega, Nyakabanda, and Rwezamenyo sectors of Nyarugenge District.
