Rubavu woman arrested over husband’s suspicious death amid domestic disputes

By The Inspirer.

A woman in Rubavu District is in police custody after her husband was found dead under suspicious circumstances, following a period of separation due to ongoing domestic conflicts.

The 40-year-old man was discovered lifeless in bed on the night of July 18, 2025, at their home in Isangano Village, Rukoko Cell, Rubavu Sector. However, blood was found outside the house, raising further questions about the nature of his death.

According to the Western Province Police Spokesperson, SP Sylvestre Twajamahoro, preliminary investigations suggest the man may have died around 11:00 PM. Authorities suspect foul play, with initial findings pointing to the man’s estranged wife as a potential perpetrator.

“The couple had been living apart due to repeated conflicts. On the night of his death, the man was alone with his children. The wife, with whom he had a history of disputes, was taken into custody shortly after,” SP Twajamahoro told IGIHE.

He urged the public to seek peaceful resolutions to domestic issues, warning that unchecked conflicts can escalate into violence and even loss of life.

The deceased’s body has been transferred to Gisenyi Hospital for autopsy, while the suspect remains detained at the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) station in Gisenyi as investigations continue.
