President Kagame and FIFA’s Infantino Discuss Football Development in Rwanda

President Paul Kagame and FIFA President Gianni Infantino met in France, where the Olympic Games are taking place, to discuss the development of football in Rwanda.

The meeting occurred on Friday, July 26, 2024, just before both leaders were set to attend the opening ceremony of the Olympics, which brings together over 10,000 athletes in various competitions.

Rwanda is recognized as a leading nation in sports, thanks to its remarkable achievements in recent years. The Presidential Office of Rwanda reported that President Infantino met with President Kagame at the new FIFA headquarters in Paris. They discussed the ongoing strong relationship and new opportunities to further advance football in Rwanda.

President Infantino praised President Kagame for his role in promoting the importance of football on the global stage.

“President Kagame, his government, and the Football Association are key partners of FIFA in our mission to develop football. We are proud to collaborate with them,” said Infantino.

“During my visit to this ‘Land of a Thousand Hills’ for the FIFA Congress in Kigali, I witnessed the significant progress made. President Kagame understands the value of football for the people, education, and the opportunities it creates.” He added.

The relationship between the two sides is not new. Last year, President Infantino was re-elected to lead FIFA for a second term from 2023 to 2027. President Kagame also thanked him for his contribution to the renovation of Amahoro Stadium, one of the top stadiums in the world.
