Over 21,000 candidates to sit TVET national exams

Over 21,000 Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students are set to do national examinations scheduled from November 20 to November 30, 2018.

The exams  are expected to be launched by the Minister of Education, Dr Eugene MUTIMURA at SOS Technical High School in Kigali.

The number of candidates for national TVET exams has been increasing on yearly basis whereby it has grown from 16, 000 candidates in 2011 to 21, 788 candidates this year.

During the 2018 TVET examinations, over 91 Centers will host the students from 187 schools to do examinations clustered in 35 domains and will be assessed by 975 assessors.

National Examinations when students are put to a critical test of quality is an important period in Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

Students are accorded an opportunity to competitively demonstrate the skills and knowledge acquired so far and, in doing so, participate in making a choice regarding their future careers.

The Ministry of Education through the Workforce Development Authority (WDA) is on course to have at least 60 percent of students completing the Nine Year Basic Education join Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) schools by 2024.

So far over 52 per cent are joining TVET schools, figures sow.
