Nyamasheke: Man wanted for stabbing another over a woman

Alexis Bimenyimana, 52, is being sought after stabbing and injuring 31-year-old Jonas Ndikumana, also known as Dani, in a dispute over a woman who has reportedly given birth to children with both men. The woman, residing in Nyabitekeri Sector, Nyamasheke District, claims Ndikumana fathered her two children, while Bimenyimana asserts that he is in love with her.

One of the residents present during the violent altercation in Bohokoro Village, Muyange Cell, Nyabitekeri Sector, revealed to Imvaho Nshya that both men are members of a gang called “Ibihazi,” which is suspected of drug trafficking, drug abuse, and theft.

It is reported that Ndikumana was stabbed below the heart after being seen earlier drinking with the woman at a bar in Kabingo’s trading center.

Bimenyimana, who has a wife and children in Kabarore Village, Kigabiro Cell, also owns a small house in Bohokoro Village, Muyange Cell, where he often spends time at his leisure.

A resident narrated: “When Jonas Ndikumana was returning home in Kigabiro Cell around 8:30 p.m., the woman accompanied him. As they passed through a small forest between Muyange and Kigabiro, they were ambushed by Bimenyimana, who stabbed Ndikumana, causing him to collapse.”

The woman, who was with the attacker, immediately screamed, prompting Bimenyimana to flee, while Ndikumana was rushed to Muyange Health Center.

The resident continued: “Since they were the only three in the forest, no one knows exactly what argument led to the stabbing. However, it’s believed that apart from their dispute over the woman, they may have also fought over stolen goods they were supposed to share. Both men seemed to be trying to impress the woman, which may have escalated the conflict. The ongoing investigation by the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) will reveal the truth.”

Locals reported that Ndikumana had been on the run from law enforcement due to previous violent crimes committed against a resident.

This explains why he and the woman were sneaking through the forest, attempting to remain hidden.

Residents also expressed serious concerns about Bimenyimana, who is still at large, as he is known to carry a machete during his violent activities.

Authorities, including DASSO (District Administration Security Support Organ), have tried to apprehend him, but he has threatened them with the machete, forcing them to retreat. They are urging for his capture to confiscate the weapon and hold him accountable for his actions that endanger public safety.

Ngabonziza Principe, the Executive Secretary of Muyange Cell, confirmed the incident to Imvaho Nshya, stating that the perpetrator is still being sought.

He said: “This violent act occurred, and the suspect is still on the run. The victim was taken to Muyange Health Center, accompanied by the woman who is now caring for him. The case is under investigation, and we await further details to understand the real cause of their dispute.”

He urged residents to avoid violence and resolve conflicts peacefully instead of engaging in plots that could lead to loss of life.
