New mayors elected to fill vacant posts in Rwanda’s local governance

Significant changes in local governance across various districts in Rwanda have made it possible to have new mayors, a scenario that has put an end to the transition.

New mayors and deputies have been elected, filling vacant posts left by former officials who had resigned or were dismissed due to various reasons, including accountability issues and shortcomings in upholding unity within the country.

In Musanze district, Nsengimana Claudien became the new mayor, alongside Uwanyirigira Clarisse and Kayiranga Theobald, serving as deputies for economic affairs and social affairs, respectively.

Gakenke District elected Mukandayisenga Vestine as the new mayor, while Burera District chose Mukamana Soline for the role.

In the Western Province, Mulindwa Prosper transitioned from acting mayor of Rutsiro district to the mayor of Rubavu district, replacing Kambogo Ildephonse, who was dismissed earlier this year. Rutsiro district elected Kayitesi Dative as mayor, supported by vice mayors Emmanuel Uwizeyimana (economic affairs) and Umuganwa Marie Chantal (social affairs).

In Karongi district, Mukase Valentine, the former vice mayor for social affairs, was elected as the new mayor, with the previous mayor, Mukarutesi Vestine, having been dismissed in October.

Nyamasheke district welcomed Mupenzi Narcisse as the new mayor, taking over from Appolonie Mukamasabo, who was dismissed in August due to failing to fulfill her duties.

Additionally, Kagabo Rwamunono Richard assumed the role of vice Mayor of Rwamagana District in charge of Economic Development.

All newly elected officials have taken their oaths and are committed to serving their respective districts diligently.
