Ministry of Agriculture to stabilize fertilizer prices

The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI) has announced that in order to stabilize the prices of fertilizers which rises at the international market, will set government subsidy for local farmers.

The discussions started after many farmers in Rwanda worried about the rise of cost of fertilizers which they say may result in lower production.

According to the prices on the market, a kilogramme of diammonium phosphate (DAP) is now Rwf633, up from Rwf480. NPK (17: 17: 17) increased from Rwf620 to Rwf713 while urea, which costed Rwf462, is now Rwf564.

The Ministry of Agriculture through their Twitter handle said that the measures will soon be published and they will be followed by Agro-dealers.

“In order to restrict the prices of fertilizers caused by the international market, The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources is working on new measures that will be followed in selling fertilizers.” Read the Tweet.

Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB), recently told the media that the rise of fertilizers cost is because local farmers are using imported fertilizers whose prices have risen on the international market.
