German parliamentarians to visit Rwanda tomorrow

A delegation of German legislators is expected to start a work visit to Rwanda on Wednesday and stay until September 6, according to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kigali.

The visit of Members of Parliament (MPs) follows another by the German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Dr. Gerd Müller, who was in Rwanda mid last month.

The German Petitions Committee MPs are expected to arrive in Rwanda after a first stop in Ethiopia, according to a Tuesday statement from the embassy.

The visitors are due to exchange with Rwandan MPs with a focus on petitions and ombudsman issues. They will meet the Chamber of Deputies Speaker Donatille Mukabalisa, the President of the Senate Bernard Makuza and Rwanda’s Ombudsman Anastase Murekezi.

The German MPs will also visit Kigali Genocide Memorial to pay tribute to victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and, thereafter, hold talks with representatives of non-governmental organisations about the reconciliation process in the country.

The six-member delegation is led by Andreas Mattfeldt and comprised of Josef Oster, Bernhard Loos, Siemtje Möller, Ralf Kapschack, and Manfred Todtenhausen.
