Gatsibo district planted soy beans on 50 ha for 2021-B Agricultural Season

The 2021 agricultural season B is underway across the country; In Gatsibo District it was launched in the Cyampirita marshland, which is cultivated by the Cooperative ‘COOPCUMA’ growing maize, beans and Soybeans. Soybeans have been cultivates on 50 hectares in this marshland.
In Gatsibo District, the agricultural season 2021-B started on March 18, 2021, and, at the district level was inaugurated in the Cyampirita marshland located in Kanyangese Cell in Rugarama Sector.
Manzi Theogene, the vice mayor in charge of finance and economic development in Gatsibo District thanked the farmers for their good performance during the 2021-A season, urging them to take good care of the crop using built-in shelves and manage to sell it on good prices.
In the Cyampirita swamp, Soya Peka 6 seed was planted and farmers used DAP and compost manure fertilizers, expecting to yield 1.5 tonnes per hectare.
Dancilla UWAMARIYA, president of COOPCUMA cooperative that grows Maize and Soy in Cyampirita marshland said that in the 2021-A planting season they have seen a high and good maize yield and have already found buyers.
She commended the Government of Rwanda for the development of cooperatives through the training they receive, the search for their market, and the development of wetlands and the construction of infrastructure to help them manage their production, including storage and drying facilities.
COOPCUMA Cooperative runs its activities on 50-hectare soil in Cyampirita marshland with 252 members including 96 women and 156 men.
