Angola’s Ambassador in Rwanda reaffirms commitment to solve DRC Crisis

In the face of the reigning instability in the Eastern part of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the EAC region, the republic of Angola has been requested to mediate the conflict between the republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Represented by His Excellency President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, the republic of Angola, in the framework of the African union and as president of the international conference on the great lake region has committed to find a peaceful solution to the conflict, through dialogue between the parties involved.
In his statement, Filomeno Bárber Leiro Octávio, the ambassador of Angola in Rwanda, on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of Angola’s national independence on November 11, 2022, said that there are many achievements to celebrate after becoming free of foreign forces and the domination of the Portuguese colonial rule.
The celebration of the 47th anniversary of the independency of Angola coincides with the centenary of the late doctor António Agostinho Neto, first president of the independent republic of Angola, who, at zero hours of November 11th of 1975, in a predicament in which Angola was still occupied by foreign forces, proclaimed before the people and the world, the new African nation.
Filomeno Bárber Leiro Octávio, H.E Ambassador of Angola in Rwanda said that Angola tried to achieve peace and started democratic process, reconciliation and national reconstruction since the leadership of President José Eduardo dos santos after the late doctor António Agostinho Neto in 1979.
“In 2017 and 2022, his excellency João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenco won both the fourth and fifth general presidential elections of the republic of Angola, — and continued to consolidate democracy, reconciliation and national reconstruction — as well as reinforcing the fight against corruption, political adulation and nepotism,” said Filomeno Bárber Leiro Octávio, the ambassador of Angola in Rwanda.
He lauds efforts of the diplomatic relations and cooperation between the republic of Angola and the republic of Rwanda in continuing their unstoppable march towards their progressive consolidation.
Angola-Rwanda bilateral partnerships
In addition to the agreements and memorandum of understanding signed and in force since 2014, 2019 and 2020 between Angola and Rwanda, it was also signed nine legal instruments; four of them related to the avoidance of double taxation; extradition; mutual legal assistance in criminal matters; and transfer of people sentenced to jail.
The remaining five memorandums of understanding were signed in the fields of mineral resources, oil and gas; agriculture and livestock development; health; local administration; and cooperation between the national school of administration and public policies (ENAP), and the Rwandan management institute.
More dynamic cooperation
“Under the leadership of His Excellency João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, significant steps were made to improve more dynamic cooperation in the fields of defense and internal order; culture; hospitality; tourism; finance, banking and business; industry and trade; education; science and professional technical training; social action —family and women promotion; as well as, the creation of the chamber of trade and industry and the air link between both countries,” noted the ambassador.
The celebration of the 47th anniversary of the independency of the Republic of Angola which takes place in Kigali on November 15, 2022 has brought together various dignitaries; including Prof. Manasseh Nshuti, the minister of state in the ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation in charge of East African community; members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of international and regional organizations; teachers and students from universities, diplomats and members of the Angolan community in Rwanda.
Education among the shared values
Dr. Ismael Buchanan, CEO of Rwanda International Affairs Institute (RIAI) based in Kigali and Senior Lecturer of Politics and International Relations at University, Huye campus said that the strong relationship with the Republic of Angola is an opportunity to exchange knowledge and teachers to be able to analyze Africa’s key challenges and see how to share available opportunities especially at education level.
Angola’s 47th independency means a lot
Eddie Milan, an Angolan student who is studying Tourism at East African University in Rwanda, said that independency means a lot: “It means our freedom and development in different life circumstances,” Milan said.
Simon Emilian Miger, another Angolan student in Rwanda at AUCA University said: “Independency for us is not a simple day, it is a freedom, not only freedom from the war, but also freedom of our minds to do what we have to do, and to remind always in our lives
