ULK: Graduates look on job creation as a key driver of development

Graduates from Kigali Independent University (ULK) believe in job creation rather than seeking them.

During the graduation ceremony that took place at the campus headquarters in Kigali yesterday December 12, 2018, the graduates said that they are going to focus on entrepreneurship notwithstanding they are able to compete for the labor market.

 Denise Uwamariya, a graduate from Information Technology said that she is going to implement the request of the University leaders who often tell the students to be job creators than job seekers.

“We have such an opportunity to create our own jobs. I know many of the Alumni of this campus have big businesses, why can I fail to create my own job? This is an assignment of mine from this moment,” Uwamariya wondered.

Jean Marie Vianney Gasana, another graduate said he will soon request a loan from the Business Development Fund (BDF) and invest in his own business without waiting for being hired.

“The best thing is that I start creating my own job without waiting for it and without hope of when to get it. It is a great opportunity that we have BDF to cater for our seed capital,” said Gasana.

Prof Rwigamba Balinda, Founder of ULK also tasked the graduates to be job creators and have discipline as a weapon. He told the graduates to have a true vision of their life.

“You all need to have a vision and work hard to attain your goals. You must obey God to be able to succeed in your life and have sustainable development. You must be humble to be able to serve Rwandans and be the catalysts of change; and as you leave this campus, I advise you to go and create jobs.” Rwigamba advised graduates.

Since its inception in 1996, ULK has produced a total of  31,000 graduates.
