Ambassador Urujeni presents credentials copies to represent Rwanda at the Vatican

Rwanda’s Ambassador to Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Slovenia and international organizations based in Geneva, Urujeni Manzi Bakuramutsa, has officially presented copies of her credentials accrediting her as Rwanda’s representative to the Vatican.

The credential copies were presented on May 20, 2026, to the Vatican’s Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, Paul Richard Gallagher.

The diplomatic step marks another milestone in strengthening long-standing relations between Rwanda and the Holy See.

Earlier this week, Ambassador Bakuramutsa also held high-level discussions with the Vatican’s Deputy Secretary of State, Paolo Rudelli, as well as the Head of Protocol of the Holy See, Javier Domingo Fernández González.

On the same day she submitted the credential copies, Ambassador Bakuramutsa was also received by the Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin.

According to the Embassy of Rwanda in Switzerland, discussions between both sides focused on reinforcing the long-standing cooperation between Rwanda and the Catholic Church across various sectors.

Diplomatic sources indicate that Ambassador Bakuramutsa is expected to later present her full credentials to Pope Leo XIV, formally confirming her appointment as Rwanda’s envoy to the Vatican.
