Rwanda and DRC officials hold cooperation talks in Washington

Rwandan and Congolese officials have met in Washington, D.C., for high-level discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation in addressing regional security challenges and advancing economic development.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of various World Bank sessions focused on fostering development partnerships.

Rwanda was represented by Finance and Economic Planning Minister Murangwa Yussuf, while the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) delegation was led by Economy Minister Daniel Mukoko Samba.

According to the Rwandan Embassy in Washington, representatives from the World Bank and other partner institutions supporting Rwanda–DRC dialogue also took part in the talks.

The discussions build on the peace agreement signed on June 27, 2025, between Rwanda and the DRC—brokered by the United States with observers from Qatar, Togo, and the African Union (AU).

The accord outlines key commitments, including the dismantling of the FDLR rebel group, the lifting of Rwanda’s defensive measures, the repatriation of refugees, and collaboration on joint economic development projects.

Both countries continue to engage in follow-up negotiations to determine how these provisions will be implemented and to pave the way for a comprehensive economic cooperation framework.
