Australia reclaims gold in mixed team time trial as Rwanda finishes 11th

Kigali, September 24, 2025 – Team Australia claimed the gold medal in the Mixed Team Time Trial at the UCI Road World Championships after clocking 54 minutes and 3 seconds over a distance of 41.8 kilometers.

The race, held on Wednesday, marked the fourth day of the 98th edition of the World Championships taking place in Kigali. The event featured mixed teams of three men and three women competing against the clock on a challenging city circuit.

The course ran from the Kigali Convention Centre (KCC) through RDB, Gishushu, Chez Lando, Prince House, Sonatubes, Nyanza-Kicukiro, back through Sonatubes, Rwandex, Kanogo, Mediheal, Kwa Mignone, Ku Muvunyi, and finished again at KCC.

Nineteen teams competed in the relay, each consisting of six riders. Rwanda fielded a men’s team of Byukusenge Patrick, Nkundabera Eric, and Uwiduhaye Mike, while the women’s lineup included Ingabire Diane, Nirere Xaverine, and Nyirarukundo Claudette.

Australia narrowly edged France by five seconds to take gold, with Switzerland finishing third, 18 seconds behind. This marks Australia’s second consecutive victory in this category, having also won in Zurich in 2024.

Rwanda finished 11th out of the 15 teams that completed the race, with a time of 1 hour, 3 minutes, and 8 seconds.

The championships continue on Thursday, September 25, with the fifth day of competition featuring the women’s under-23 road race over 119.3 kilometers. Rwanda will be represented by four riders: Iragena Charlotte, Mwamikazi Jazilla, Ntakirutimana Martha, and Nyirarukundo Claudette.
