Authorities in Muhanga District have arrested 15 people, including 13 men and 2 women, in connection with a string of criminal acts that have disrupted public security in the area.
The suspects were apprehended on Saturday, August 3, in Rugarama Village, Gifumba Cell, Nyamabuye Sector, following a joint operation by the Rwanda National Police, local leaders, and community members.
According to officials, the group is believed to have been involved in various acts of criminality, including nighttime robberies, ambushing residents, and breaking into homes.
Southern Province Police Spokesperson, CIP Hassan Kamanzi, confirmed that the two women in the group are suspected of harboring criminals and storing stolen goods.
“All suspects are currently being held at the Nyamabuye Police Station as investigations by the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) are underway,” CIP Kamanzi said.
He praised community members for their vigilance and timely reporting, urging those engaged in unlawful acts to reconsider their behavior. He warned that the police will continue to take firm action against anyone who threatens public order.
