47 hospitalized over poisoned non-alcoholic sorghum drink

At least 47 citizens from Cyinzuzi sector in Rulindo district are hospitalized, suffering from abdominal and stomach pain after drinking poisoned non-alcoholic sorghum drink in a wedding ceremony.

The victims participated to a wedding ceremony of a 67-year-old man from Kigarama village, Budakiranya cell, according to UMUSEKE information.

All the participants were well enough during the first day of the ceremony, but the old man invited them the following day and served them with beer, unfortunately, all who consumed the sorghum drink immediately suffered from excessive abdominal and stomach pain until some were taken to hospital.

Benda Theophile, Executive Secretary of Kinzuzi sector said 47 citizens who consumed the drink and were identified.

He said four (4) of them are suffering much pain and are hospitalized in Rutongo Hospital.

“Current information about the cause of suffering according to the patients is the sorghum drink they consumed from the wedding,” he said.

Apparently, other citizens who consumed the drink are advised to go for medical checkup to get medicines.
