Kigali, October 14, 2025 — Dr. Frank Habineza, President of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, and Alphonse Nkubana, head of the Party for Progress and Solidarity (PSP), have been elected by members of the National Consultative Forum of Political Organizations (NFPO) to serve as Senators.
The two were elected during an extraordinary general assembly of the forum held in Kigali on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Their election results will be submitted to the Supreme Court for confirmation before they officially take office.
Once approved, they will replace outgoing Senators Mugisha Alexis and Clotilde Mukakarangwa, whose terms end on October 22, 2025.
Dr. Habineza, who has twice contested for the presidency of Rwanda, first joined the national legislature in 2018 as a Member of Parliament representing the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda. After completing his term in the Chamber of Deputies, he once again ran for president in the 2024–2029 term.
He founded the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda (DGPR) in 2009, which was later officially registered after a long process of meeting legal requirements.
Alphonse Nkubana, who leads the PSP party, has also been serving as the spokesperson of the NFPO since 2024.
Their election marks a continued commitment by the forum to ensuring diversity and representation of Rwanda’s registered political organizations in the Senate.
