In a bid to develop MICE sector in the East African region, Rwanda Convention Bureau (RCB) has partnered with African Society of Association Executives (AFSAE) to host a two-day associations workshop, from 21st – 22nd June, to impart skills that will enhance the MICE sector.

MICE stands for Meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.

The workshop held under the theme “Essential Practices in Association Management” brought together over 70 association executives from both Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda.

Speaking at the official opening, Rwanda Convention Bureau (RCB) Chief Executive Officer, Denise B Omany said the workshop comes at a time when the MICE sector in the region is being offered much attention to, to be a robust source of revenue.

“Associations are important platforms and channels for MICE strategy implementation all over the world and particularly for Rwanda: they are major sources of MICE leads. Again, when ranking countries as preferred MICE destinations, ICCA (International Congress and Conference Association) gives consideration to Association meetings. That is why RCB   needs to efficiently rely and closely work with associations in order to efficiently implement the MICE strategy and keep a very good position Rwanda as a MICE destination”, Denise emphasized.

The workshop is similar to the one hosted in South Africa earlier this year tagged “Education Program during Meetings Africa”. The training will pave a way for the founding of the Rwanda Society of Association Executives, which will be a good network channel for Rwanda to meeting more leads for the MICE sector in Rwanda.
