Rwanda Religious Leaders Forum speaks against Gender based Violence

By Elias Hakizimana

The Rwanda Religious Leaders Forum (RRLF) speaks against women and girls’ violence including death committed by their husbands.

They voiced for such vulnerable women noting the recent slaughtered Beatrice Muhawenimana who was killed on April 28, 2018 by her husband Jean Damascene Ntezimana in Nyagatovu village, Karenge cell, Karenge sector in Rwamagana district.

This was communicated through a Press Release signed by Bishop John Rucyahana, Chairman of Rwanda Religious Leaders Forum on May 7, 2018.

“This is very ashamed, doing such a criminal action for your partner (spouse) is very dangerous for the nation, for the church and religious community and this can persist if no action is done to punish, to protect and teach citizens all about love in their families as well as the violence of women and girls in families,” the announcement said.

The forum speaks against people who continue to minimize humanity and gender equality principle between men and women, and the violence that is still there among religious member in Rwanda.

“We call up on all members of RRLF to teach their audience principles of worship and gender equality and fight against any kind of violence where they stay, in their families and in all categories from children to mature people,” the announcement added.
