Around 60 upcoming kids aged between 5-13 turned up for the inaugural first edition of the Bluesky Taekwondo Open winning on Saturday at NPC Gymnasium.
Organized by BlueSky Taekwondo Academy Club, the inaugural competition attracted nine teams including’ Green Hills Academy, Kigali International School, Line-up Taekwondo Club, Dream Taekwondo Club, Musanze Special Taekwondo Club. Kigali International Taekwondo Academy as well as namely Mombasa, and Bride as well as Bluesky Taekwondo Academy.
Mombasa Country Academy won most of the medals in both in Kyorugi and Poomsae categories. Dream Team finished second followed by BlueSky in third place, Green Hills also some medals to finish 4th ahead of Special Line-up Taekwondo team.
In the Poomsae under-30kgs male category, Adika Doiel (Mombasa Academy) faced off teammate Juma Abdulaziz to win gold, Simon Masaka (Kenya’s) beat fellow country mate Harin Kimoreng in the U47kgs male cadet final category
In the female U-26kg Poomsae, Shipi Gikundiro from Green Hills team beat her teammate Lyana Mutangana, Loic Hugo Shema (BlueSky) defeated Anoumba Kristula to win the female U-35kg category.
Garnier Gatari (Dream Team) won the male cadet Poomsae 5-7 year category, Rwema Prince Bukubu (Green Hills) defeated Janek Noah Bichsel (Kigali International Club) in the male Poomsae male U-47kgs while Bertine Rutaganda (Dream team) won the female U-35kgs.
The president of Rwanda taekwondo federation Placide Bagabo thanked the participants, school clubs, parents, coaches and referees as well as Mombasa Country Club for the emerging as the best and argued other teams to prepare well so that can win the next edition.
As winners the Kenyans walked away with the competition trophy on top gold medals and certificates.
