Rayon Sports head Coach Olivier Karekezi who was arrested for an alleged cybercrime has been released on Monday by Police.
Police arrested Karekezi and put him in their custody on Wednesday, November 17th to investigate him on unspecified charges related to cybercrimes.
At that time, Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Theos Badege said Karekezi committed the crimes but Badege did not reveal exactly where and when the alleged crimes were committed.
Karekezi’s arrest came just hours after the death of his assistant coach Hamad ‘Katauti’ Ndikumana, who passed away at his home in Nyakabanda sector, Nyarugenge district on Tuesday a night before Karekezi arrest.
The Police Spokesperson insisted that Karekezi’s arrest has no connection to the death of Katauti but “only a coincidence.”
Former Amavubi captain Karekezi returned from Sweden where he was footballer in July following his appointment as Rayon Sports head coach.
Rayon Sports had offered Karekezi up to seven days, to settle his case; the club will take the next step regarding his position. Instead he spent more than 17 days in custody.
