With less than two less to the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, Kenya Football Federation (FKF) together with the CECAFA secretariat have confirmed the stadium venues are ready to host the 2017 Senior Challenge Competition from November 25 to December 9.
The Kakamega, Kisumu and Nakuru stadium have been designated to provide venues for the 12-nation event according to FKF official announcement while Nairobi and Machakos will be put on stand-by.
“We wish to confirm that as per the MOU signed between CECAFA, COSAFA and North Zone (UNAF), Zimbabwe and Libya have confirmed to take part in this year’s CECAFA challenge cup.
“This means we shall have a total of 12 countries taking part in the tournament. They are:- Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Zanzibar, Somalia, Zimbabwe and Libya.” The announcement read
On the pitch it will be the battle arguably for Uganda, Cranes who will be out to defend the title against the likes of Rwanda, Amavubi team which finished second in 2016.
The CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup has been held in 1986, 1993, 1997, 1998, 2014 and 2016. In 1997 and 1998, the tournament had been suspended. Uganda is record winner 15 times.
